Sofie Jensen Soprano

Sofie Jensen's rich lyric voice, brilliant musicianship and captivating stage presence have put her at the forefront of the new generation of Scandinavian singers. In 2019 she received her second Reumert nomination for Singer of the Year, uniquely nominated for two roles that season.

A celebrated performer at the Royal Danish Opera, in recent and future seasons her roles there include Vixen in Janacek's Cunning Little Vixen, Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto, Micaëla in Bizet's Carmen, Mimi in Puccini's La Bohème and Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust. Her Mozart roles include Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan Tutte and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte. Other recent roles include Gretel in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel with the Copenhagen Philharmonic, Valencienne in Lehar's The Merry Widow with the Odense Symphony, and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus at Opera Bern.

A brilliant interpreter of new music and works of the 20th century, Jensen created the role of Gerda in Hans Abrahamsen's Snow Queen / Snedronningen, premiered at the Royal Danish Opera. She has sung the Maid in Thomas Adès' Powder her Face, winning a Reumert for Best Opera of 2016, as well as Beatriz in the same composer's The Exterminating Angel. Other contemporary roles include Madame Mao in John Adams' Nixon in China, Bibi Girl in Svitlana Azarova's Momo, Agnes in David Bruce's Nothing and Laetitia in Gian Carlo Menotti's Old Maid and the Thief.

With an increasing international presence, next season she will make her debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper in München, adding to recent performances with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in Gorecki's 3rd Symphony and at the Kirsten Flagstad festival. In concert, she appears widely throughout Scandinavia performing the major oratorios of Bach, Handel, Mozart and Haydn, and is an active recitalist of song repertoire, giving yearly recitals at the Copenhagen Opera Festival and recently contributing to a recording project of the complete songs of Peter Heise.

Jensen is one of the very few musicians to have been a recipient of the Danish Culture Minister's award, and is a winner of the Junior Sonning prize.
